Obituary for Wanda LaNell Phillips (Barfield)

Wanda LaNell Phillips, 82, of Jones County, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022, following a lengthy illness at the home of her loving daughter. A celebration of life will be held in her hometown of Phenix City, Alabama at a later date.

Wanda was born on October 1, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Willie Clarence "Coot" Barfield and Ona Mae Williams Barfield. She is preceded in death by two sons: Charles (Jimmy) Sloan Jr. and Joseph Sloan; sisters: Rebecca Barfield Hill, Joan Harrelson and Audrey Warren and a brother: Johnnie Barfield.

Being the social person she was, made her the perfect fit as a Bartender and Waitress at Buck's Cafe in Phenix City where she worked for many years. Full of fun, life, laughter and living life on her own terms she enjoyed dancing, hanging out with family and long time friends, swimming at Poor Boys Landing and an ice cold brewski. Jammin' to ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd were among her favorites but let's not forget her favorite phrase, "Bad To The Bone." As well as the love for her children and family our mama loved her "Sweet Home Alabama".

To our beautiful Mama "We Love and miss you and your sweet face and laugh. You'll be coming home to your Alabama."

Wanda is survived by her daughters: Cherl Duraso (Paulette) of Gray, Georgia, Kimberly Catlett (Lisa) of Phenix City, Alabama; sons: Kerry Unternahrer (Jennifer) of Phenix City, Alabama and Richard "Dickie" Sloan of Jefferson, Oregon.

She will forever be "Ranny", "Nana" and "Grandma" to her eighteen grandchildren: Kevin, Traci, Chris, Kenny, Brandon, Becca, Drew, Chelsea, Adam, Lee, Andy, Sarah, Nick, Kyle, Nathan, Natasha, Rachael, and Destiney "Doll Face"; her thirty-seven great-grandchildren; special Kitty companion: "Noah" and by many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Compassus Hospice for the compassion and care of our Mother and to Gray Memorial Chapel for their support.
