Obituary for Sonya Merrill Simpson (Lockard)
JONES COUNTY: Sonya M. Simpson, 73, of Wimbledon Lane, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020, at a local hospital. Private services will be held 3:00pm, Thursday, May 14, 2020, with Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. A live feed will be available on the Gray Memorial Chapel Facebook page.
Mrs. Simpson was born February 18, 1947, in Macon to the late Merrill Leslie Lockard and Clara Frances Wimberly Lockard. She was devoted to Jesus and was a member of Elam Baptist Church. Mrs. Simpson was a 1965 graduate of Miller High School and was an accomplished writer and painter. She was a retired court reporter and enjoyed spending her time with her dog "Sammy" and her family. Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-nine years: Paul C. Simpson, III and her father and mother-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Simpson, Jr.
Mrs. Simpson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Gina and Jeff Jernigan and her grandchildren: Kaleb, Keaton and Ansley.
