Obituary for Mira Whitehead Sammons

GRAY: Mira Whitehead Sammons, 98, of Eatonton Highway, passed away Monday, August 1, 2022, at her residence. The family will greet friends from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, Friday, August 5, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Gray. Services will follow in the church sanctuary at 2:00pm with Rev. Randy Darnell officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverside Cemetery in Macon.

Mrs. Sammons was born December 1, 1923, in Enterprise, Alabama and had lived in Gray for the past thirty-eight years. She was the daughter of the late William Porter Whitehead and Mattie Sammons Whitehead. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gray where she was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class, the Young at Hearts and served on the finance committee. Mrs. Sammons was a retired legal assistant for Fisher and Phillips as well as Ford and Harrison law firms. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ellis Walker Sammons, III and by a son: Bob Sammons.

Mrs. Sammons is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Pat and Karen Sammons and by her daughter and son-in-law: Eileen and Allen Zack.

The family would like to extended a grateful thank you to the caregivers who worked tirelessly to make Mrs. Mira's last days more comfortable: Sharon Turner, Jennifer Arnold, Naomi Carey, Fay Darsey, Joni Smith and Diane Graham.
