Obituary for John Dennis Leonard
"Big" John Dennis Leonard, of 167 Bone Creek Road, died Sunday, October 31st, 2021, at Atrium Health Navicent. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm with memorial services following at 2:00pm Saturday, November 6th, 2021 at Greenwood Baptist Church. Rev. Kim Washburn will officiate.
John was born March 25th, 1951, in Denver, Colorado and had lived in Macon for fifty-three years. He was the son of the late Willard and Mary Leonard. His mother passed away when John was two years old and he was raised by his stepmom, Mary Darby Carroll. He was preceded in death by a sister: Karen Kay Owens
John was an avid Scout Master of Troop #105 of Forsyth as well as Troop #22 of Macon. He was an experienced trials bike rider in the 70's. He retired from Panaprint Inc. with a career in printing spanning fifty years. He loved trips to the mountains and taking his bride antiquing. Even though John had daughters he treated his scouts like sons. He was a softball coach to both girls with Shurlington Ball League. He was loved by many and feared by more-(ask any of his scouts). He was a devoted husband, father and grandpa.
He lived by the Boy Scout motto- A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.
Left to treasure John's memory are his loving wife of fifty-two years: Carolyn Fay Leonard; daughters: Kimberly Miller (Adam) and Jennifer Findlay (Ricky); grandchildren: Jennie Hutchins (Joey), Tiffany Kosier (Aaron), Hunter Parker (Andrew), Zac Williamson (Rebecca) and Ansleigh Findlay; great-grandkids: Elena Hutchins, Hillary Hutchins, Martin Richard Kosier, Kira Mae Williamson, AJ Miller, and Kayla Miller; bothers: Roy Leonard (Kathy) and Terry Carroll (Laura); brother-In-law: James Allen; sisters-In-law: Glenda Warren (Dave) and Jo Sheffield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greenwood Baptist Church, 3400 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia 31032.
