Jim was born on March 30, 1939 in Proctorville, Ohio to the late Robert Hoffman and Inez Roberts Hoffman. He served his country proudly, in the United States Air Force. His career included many accommodations, which are too many to list. His NCO gave this outstanding report on March 11, 1985, "TSgt Hoffman works long, hard hours and does whatever it takes to get the job done. His position is an extremely stressful and demanding one with an enormous scope of responsibility considering his rank. Yet, he continues to excel in the complex environment of the NCMC and exceeds all standards of excellence". Promote! 1Lt, USAF Tommy T. Knighten.

Jim and Elaine enjoyed traveling together to the mountains and their trips to the south east, especially Cherokee and Biloxi.

Jim is survived by the love of life, his devoted wife of thirty two years, Minnie (Elaine) Hoffman and his children, Son, Roswell Lee Nichols, Jr. (Lisa) and their children Rebecca (Zach) Eagen and Victoria (Kennith) Griffin. Toby Wayne Nichols, and daughter Penny Diane Borum and her children, Jimmy (Mala) Howell, and Dulsey Lachica (Jason), grandchildren Sophia and Caleb Eagen, and Allyssa Howell, Jason and Anthony Lachica.
