Obituary for Carol Ann Bridges (Strange)

Carol Ann Strange Bridges passed away on April 7, 2022. Born in Trion, Georgia on July 17, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Fred D. and Elizabeth Swafford Strange. Schooled in the Trion Schools, she was proud to be a 1960 graduate of Trion High School. She was especially proud to have been part of the cheerleading squad that led the Trion High School Football Team to win the State Championship in 1957. She also completed the Legal Assistant Certificate Program through Berry College. Her first job was at the Summerville Telephone Company. Later she served in the general office and was a medical typist for Dr.’s Allen, Goodwin, and Spivey, but most will remember her work with the Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc. in the Berryton community (Chattooga County, Georgia). She began work there in 1962 as a general office employee and had earned the rank of Human Resources Manager in working there until closing day in 2000. Following the close of the mill, she began work with the State of Georgia in Child Support Enforcement which led to her work with the Chattooga County Division of Family & Children Services. She retired in 2015, but continued to work in a part-time capacity through 2017. She was proud of the work she accomplished in helping people in all of her work capacities. She was also a Leadership Chattooga participant. As a charter member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship, she was always very proud of the early work in the establishment of the church. She served there in many different capacities, but will be remembered for her work in leading the Social Committee in producing countless meals and refreshments for banquets, luncheons, dinners, showers, times of bereavement, and other events. For quite some time in a very valuable partnership between a local restaurant and the church, she delivered encouragement and meals to individuals who were confined to their homes. If you were the recipient of her own chocolate fudge iced cupcakes, mints, punch, or her BBQ pork shoulder, you were special beyond measure. Though she faced struggles in life, she found solace in providing for others through work, church, and home. She counted among her greatest joys that of loving her grandsons, Joseph Frady and Wilson and Henry Bridges. In the end, she too was surrounded by more love than she could have ever imagined. It was her wish for a private, simple celebration of life. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
