Obituary for Billy Wayne Mitchell
HADDOCK: Billy Wayne Mitchell, 54, of Highway 22, East, died Thursday, October 14, 2021, at his residence, after a five year battle with cancer. The family will greet friends from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Sunday, at Haddock Baptist Church. Services will be held 11:00am, Monday, October 18, 2021, at Haddock Baptist Church with interment at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Billy was born July 8, 1967, in Hopewell, Virginia and had lived in Jones County for the past thirty-five years. He served his community with the Jones County Sheriff's Office with twenty-five years of service. Billy attained the rank of Captain and was over the Traffic Division. Billy was a deacon at New Salem Baptist Church and was a Mason. He was a proud papaw to his grandchildren and was preceded in death by his father-in-law: Wilbur Allen Barnes.
Billy is survived by his wife of thirty-one years: Rebekah Barnes Mitchell; children: Bethany Herin (Daniel) and Maggie Upchurch (Chris); grandchildren: Rylee Ann Herin, Daniel Paul Herin and Allison Grace Upchurch; parents: James and Brenda Mitchell; sister: Angie Hooper (Stephen); mother-in-law: Kaye Quinn Barnes and by his furbaby: Mally.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Daniel Paul Herin Medical Fund, care of Morris Bank in Gray.
